Packing for a sailing charter requires a different mindset than packing for a hotel vacation. Space is limited. Soft bags are essential — hard-sided luggage is almost universally unwelcome on charter boats.
The essentials: lightweight, quick-drying clothing. Sun protection is critical — a good rash guard or long-sleeve UV shirt, a wide-brimmed hat, quality polarized sunglasses, and SPF 50+ sunscreen.
What to leave behind: anything you are not prepared to lose to salt water, anything in a hard case, and anything that requires ironing. The sailing life is a simplified one, and that simplification is part of the appeal.
